A guide on two different methods to remove rust stains from carpet.

If you have rust stains on carpet there is a few different methods on how to remove them.
Rust stains on carpet are often caused by metal studs on furniture legs or by a leaking radiator.
It may be at some time the carpet has been cleaned and furniture put back in place without protecting the carpet from metal studs, or it could be caused by iron furniture.

Let’s take a look at two different methods on how to remove rust spots.
Avoid using detergents or stain removers such as Vanish stain remover as these will not remove rust marks. Rust is iron oxide and requires the use of an acid to remove it.
Using white vinegar.
You can try white vinegar to remove the rust mark. Dab the vinegar onto the rust stain and allow to dwell over several hours making sure it does not dry. Then gently rub and blot the stain. If the stain has improved but not quite gone, repeat the treatment or leave overnight.
Using a professional product to remove rust.
It may be that using white vinegar may not do the trick to remove that unsightly rust stain. Some rust marks can be difficult if not impossible to remove with vinegar especially if the mark is thick and encrusted.
As a professional carpet cleaner, I want to be sure I’m not spending hours in a customers home trying to remove something which can take minutes to remove.
I use Craftex Rust & Iron Mould Remover. This is a strong acid that will not affect the carpet and will remove most rust stains in minutes.
Using Craftex Rust & Iron Mould Remover.
This is a strong acid and the safety instructions should be adhered to. Use gloves as this product can irritate or damage your skin.
Just apply small drops onto the rust stain and gently agitate the mark and leave to dwell for several minutes. Then blot the mark with white towelling or kitchen paper tissue. After this, apply a few drops of water to rinse the mark and blot any remaining moisture. If the stain is heavy, you may need to repeat several times. Most rust marks can be dealt with in just a few minutes.

Black spots on carpet
As you can see the rust marks have completely been removed.
The Craftex rust remover can also be used to treat radiator leak stains.
This product can also remove black spots on carpet caused by mould. Black mould marks can appear after food or drink have been spilled on the carpet. The mould marks can develop over time and prove very difficult to remove with normal stain removers. The treatment is also the same as described above.
